Traditional Medicines to Become Illegal in Europe

It sounds like a bad April Fool’s joke, but it’s not. On the first of April next year, thousands of products associated with traditional medicine will become illegal throughout the European Union.
April 1, 2011, is the date the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) comes into force throughout Europe. Many herbal products—including those already sold safely as food supplements—will need to be registered under THMPD if they are to be made available. But registration involves a series of eligibility and technical challenges as well as prohibitive costs, so a large number of traditional medicines will be prevented from being registered. This is especially true if the medicines are made by smaller companies with low annual sales volumes—a fairly common occurrence with traditional medicines.
A related concern is that laws and regulations that are enacted in Europe often influence US policy—and a negative outcome over there is a dangerous precedent that could be adopted here at home. So preserving access in the EU is absolutely critical to our own health freedoms.
Our colleagues at the Alliance for Natural Health International (ANH-Intl), together with the European Benefyt Foundation (EBF), have established a joint working group to coordinate their response to this issue. They plan a three-pronged attack:
1. Force a judicial review of THMPD as being an unsuitable vehicle for assessing traditional medicines. Not a single Ayurvedic or traditional Chinese medicine product has been registered under it. This will be expensive—please see below about how you can help with a gift.
2. Change the EU food supplement regulations. The current regulations say that herbal products previously sold as food supplements are to be reclassified as medicines; a food or herb preparation is considered “novel” (and thus banned from sale) if it cannot be proved that one or more of its ingredients had been used significantly in the EU before May 1997; and health claims made by many herbal products are banned, limiting consumer choice.
3. Facilitate a new regulatory framework for traditional medicinal products to replace THMPD and expand its scope. This would regulate not only over-the-counter herbal medicines, but practitioner-prescribed and pharmacy-dispensed supplements as well. The European Benefyt Foundation has been working to develop such a framework for over a year.

Hi Matt, Actually I make that claim in my comments for several reasons:
But the main reason is because we have proven that democracy does not work. And as we watch over the next 20 years, we will watch it fall down around our ankles.
And as in any true democratic society, the poor and weak will suffer and die first.
What happens in a democracy when the bottom begins to fall out, the elite get greedier as they sense their demise and are even less willing to share the few resources that are available.
They store up for their next generation what could have kept millions alive today.
Natural medicines and curatives become illegal because this is one of the last strands of control the elite have over the workers. Next growing your own food will be illegal and forget about making your ow beer.
They will initially tout out ‘real’ cases of people who have been horribly damaged and disfigured attempting to grow their own food and this will be their justification for creating laws that prevent you from doing so.
But the real reason for this travesty is because they need to control what you eat.
And as the food you eat make you sicker and sicker, your only alternative will be to go to their doctors who will make you even sicker by prescribing pharmaceutical drugs that are still in Stage Four Testing.
STAGE FOUR TESTING IS ALWAYS DONE ON THE GENERAL POPULATION
The air your breathe will also be subject to genetic manipulation. Eventually it will be so toxic that breathers or air masks will be standard issue.
In the quest to control billions of people, the earth will be slowly murdered.
So yes, your children and grandchildren will die right along with mine because of toxic air, or toxic water, or toxic food. It’s happening right in front of your face and you refuse to see it.
What hope do they have?

Lynne, this is quite simply bonkers. How will the air be genetically manipulated when it possesses no genetics? You state that “we have proven that democracy does not work” but provide no evidence. Tell me, other than democracy, what would you prefer? Much of your argument also relies on an apparent ability to see the future; you are stating with certainty a future course of events any rational exploration of the possibilities would deem highly improbable. This appears to be one unconnected, incoherent anti-establishment rant, seemingly based on a fundamentalist spiritualist belief of some kind; you’re welcome to it, but you provide no evidence whatsoever for the factual, material truth of your claims. You know something Matt, there are always naysayers such as yourself who prefer to believe that this world we live in is exactly as it seems.
There are no hidden agendas and there is no body of people attempting to control the earth’s dwindling resources.
There are no attempts at medical genoocide toward black and brown people and Planned Parenthood is exactly what it appears to be on the outside.

Lynne, how does pollution possibly qualify as ‘genetic manipulation’? It’s just a bizarre statement. As for evidence, please provide a source and preferrably a link for the quote you offer – without it, it is simply no kind of evidence at all (and even with one seems unlikely to be). At first glance, the information you are providing appears to be massively inaccurate. So far as I’m aware – and please point me to evidence otherwise – no significant change in the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere has taken place on a timescale of anything less than millions of years. Please detail for me the study in which these ice-core results were obtained.
Further evidence required for your claim that “our children and grandchildren will die before they turn 40″. How did you arrive at this figure, by what method has it been estimated? You have provided no evidence; please do so, if you have it.
You make a quite incredible number of improbable claims in your post and in your subsequent comments. I do not have time at present to deal with each of them so will restrict myself to asking for evidence to support just those two specific claims. If you would respond with evidence rather than fallacious assertions about my inability to see your unevidenced claims as obvious, that would surely be a much more constructive way to go.
Finally, for your information, the two comments following mine are both spam – they are automatically generated and not related to your post. This would seem to be obvious from the links provided by both ‘commenters’. I am baffled as to why you would seem to persistently treat these as serious comments.

Good points…I would note that as someone who really doesn’t write on blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don’t think the term “lurker” is very becoming to a non-posting reader. It’s not your fault at all, but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy just reading the posts.

This is why I wrote this blog to stir up some interest in the hopes that we would be prepared to defeat such laws before they could ever take effect.

I hardly comment, but i did some searching and wound up here April Fool’s EU – Alternative Meds Now Illegal! | My Self-Administered Oxygen Therapy Program.
